OUR SCHOOL
ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Hora Hora School was opened in 1893 on Maunu Road and was Whangarei's second Primary School. It has been in its current location on Te Mai Rd since 1925. Today it is home to 16 classrooms, all fitted with kitchens, including a modern two-storey block which opened in 2017.
Our one school rule is "we look after each other" and this sets the cornerstone for the values which we hold. At Hora Hora School we value the importance of skills that will benefit your tamariki for life. We believe these skills are just as important as literacy and numeracy and form an integral part of our school curriculum.
PASTORAL CARE
We offer a range of Pastoral Care at Hora Hora School. We are a Kidscan school and a part of the fruit in schools and lunch in schools programmes. We don't have a breakfast club but we do have kitchens in the classrooms which provide access to breakfast.
Hora Hora School also has art, construction and sewing programmes which give tamariki who need to build confidence the ability to do so in small groups.
KAPA HAKA
We have two roopu at Hora Hora School - Ngā Piwai o Hora Hora (our junior group) and Ngā Mataapuna (our senior group). Both groups have had success at regional competitions, particularly Ngā Mataapuna who have twice been the only primary school group to qualify for nationals at the regional Te Tai Tokerau primary and intermediate schools kapa haka competition.
